Oil on wood… 30”x14”
This was an experience… When im making oil paintings I draw the image on with colored pencil, this one I used a black pencil to block in the shadows and a white pencil for the highlights on a 50% value grey primed wood panel… Once I begin painting with oil I usually put a very thin film of oil over the entire board to help the paint flow off of the brush the way I like it to… I spent an entire day blocking in the initial film of oil paint… I usually let it dry really well before going back into it… This time I thought it was dry and began putting on a second film of linseed oil when I began the second layer of paint… I usually use a paper towel or an old tshirt for this step… well… I wasn’t paying attention and began applying the oil not realizing the layer underneath was not quite dry and the oil I was putting on was taking off the under painting… I had to redo the whole middle section without any of the “stencil” layer of colored pencil left because it all wiped off with the application of the linseed oil…. I’ll never do that again! 😝😅
